Clean Palette=Gateway to Alcoholism?
I realized that I haven't put anything up in the Food&Drink category for months, but (prepare: another Montréal-inspired post ahead) when we ate at the little French restaurant on vacation, the hip-hop dancing waitress served us the best palette cleansing sorbet course EVER – because it included hard liquor, of course!
Prep is simple:
- take a scoop of sorbet (Haagen Daas Lemon works magnificently; we had grapefruit at the restaurant)
- measure out one shot of vodka
- pour over sorbet
Result: One sparkling clean palette and relaxed mood!
Doing some research on "the inter-net," I discovered a similar but bit more involved Italian recipe called Sgroppino (or Lemon Gelato with Vodka and Sparkling Wine.) This one has *two* alcoholic components.
Here's a simple recipe:
Sgroppino (serves 2)
1/2 pint lemon ice cream (or sorbet)
4 ice cubes
4 oz. vodka
1 cup prosecco
zest of one lemon
Blend 4 ingredients in blender until thick & creamy. Spoon into glasses and sprinkle zest on top.

Now you all know what I'm eating if you see me and the BKP out on our fire escape this summer.

May I suggest, for those in the Inman Square area, going to Christina's for the needed sorbet? Of course everyone already knows that their ice cream is the most awesomest ever, but their sorbet is also wicked good.
