As much as my Gammy might pray on the rosary each night, I am still horrid at card games. She tried to give me the gambling bug at a young age by playing Scat with me whenever my parents left me in her care. I went to Las Vegas in 2002 and only further disappointed her by proclaiming, "The casino air is SO cold!" as my main comment on the trip. I played not one card game...although I managed to gamble away a lot of money at the nickle slots (heh...heh?)
So, when The Professor declared that he had a card game from his youth we just had to play the other nigiht, I became fearful and sleepy. One G&T later, count me full-on in for Mille Bornes (pronounced "meel born," French for "milestones,") an auto racing game through France. The goal? Be the first player to complete a series of 1,000-mile trips. Oui!
We played best-of-three. The first game, I clobbered The Prof. During Game #2, he paralyzed me with a Flat Tire for practically the entire time. Game #3 found me failing to pick a "Roulez!" card until he was 600 up on me. Still, the game (I say tentatively) was fun. Of course, I don't think I could have hung in there without the original 1962 graphics.

Poker (first for pennies, later dollars) with my grandmother. We played all sorts: 5 Card Stud, Follow-the-Queen, Sit & Sweat, Baseball, and her favorite, 5-Card deuces wild. She loved winning our money, no matter how many chores it would take to dig ourselves out of the hole.

1. Euchre. Always was; always will be.
2. Poker in any form, 3-Card Drop, 5-card draw, Stud, Hold-em, One-Eyed Jacks and the Man with the Axe, etc.
3. UNO
