Here A Kid, There A Kid, Everywhere A Kid Kid
This weekend went by in a blur of activity, and I mostly feel that way because the attendees at our various functions literally were a blur -- kids running around all hysterical and happy.
On Saturday, we drove to Salem for Sir Ivan's fourth birthday party. His parents, Geoff + Roxanne, are usually ahead of the curve and refreshingly open-minded for people with two children, which is maybe how we ended up for playtime and cake in the old cemetery across the street from their house. The kids loved it! And, as Cho pointed out, many of the old burial ground's (ahem) inhabitants would probably be happy to have lively kids running around, throwing balls, picking dandelions, and blowing bubbles instead of the same boring, solemn silence of the past few hundred years.
Sometimes I get a kick out of being the only non-married, childless couple at these events. The Prof drove the point home while talking to one of the papas in the bunch.
"So, do you have a little one here?" he politely asked The Prof.
"Oh yes," Mark replied ever-so-calmly, "She's right over, there eating pizza" and pointed to ME!
Hee hee. I like knowing that we both recognize and understand our roles in this relationship.
After heading to Salem Brew Works for a cold pint and some quiet recovery, we went home to finish preparing dinner for (only four of) The Prof's (many) cousins, who came over to see our apartment and eat a decadent dinner of bbq ribs on the grill, lime + chili peppered corn, salad and other goodies brought by our guests! We also drank a lot of wine, which might explain my headache going into our second experience of the weekend that revolved around children: little Cian's christening! Luckily, none of the kids let loose until after all the babies were full of the Holy Spirit. Bébé O'Meara did great too, no crying, and he didn't even try to drink the holy water like I did at my own christening (according to a story my Nona used to tell.) He also wore a 112-year-old christening gown that has been passed down in Mark's family since his grandmother wore it at her own christening.
Last night, getting ready for the week, I couldn't believe it was already Sunday. Where does the time go?
In keeping with my new resolution to post more fotos using Flickr, here are two sets from the weekend:
Sir Ivan turns 4
Cian the Innocent: Officially Catholic
Ivan
Someone else is growing up too...Lydia!
The happy trio, right after a "textbook" christening.
He's teething (the baby, not Mark.)

What a fun post! Mark and Cian look absolutely adorable together. Your friends' kids are super cute, too. Enjoy these summer weekends. Like me, you both have a lot planned!
