Into the White

None of the frozen stuff falling on Boston since our first snow on Sunday morning/afternoon, so I found something else pale and spectacular on which to fixate:

The Olivetti MS25 is the "very last manual typewriter in production today"! I don't have a WHITE typewriter in my collection, although I do have another Olivetti (the Valentine.) Plus, the MS25 has the ability to type in red and black...did I mention that Fred Flare is offering free shipping for holiday gift purchases over $25, which would be especially handy on something heavy like a typewriter? Mark, are you reading this post?!? H I N T !

Besides thinking about the click clack of a new typewriter, I've spent my "week away" from the blog buying/wrapping holiday gifts, trying on wedding dresses, drinking bourbon while watching seasonal movies with BKP, and decorating the apartment for Christmas. The Prof has been in Miami since Saturday for work, so once he returns tonight, sees our lovely tree from Smolak Farm, and helps me name it...I'll post pictures first thing next week of the process and results of this year's tree gettin' excursion.

Until then, I'll mentally practice what I'll be making for our first meal of the New Year -- aebleskiver!

A New Tradition

I enjoyed a great Thanksgiving with The Prof's family and amazingly relaxing following weekend...during which I slept more in a stretch than I have for the past 2 years, and did not insist that we immediately buy a tree like last year. Of course, many things fell to the wayside, like wedding planning and Blogorelli, but now I'm feeling invigorated. Plus, only 23 days remain until my second favorite holiday (after my birthday, of course) -- Christmas! This year, we'll be at home in PA for a nice long break, my last as a single gal. Next year, we start alternating for Christmas and will stay in The Bean. Eventually, I'm hoping we manage to buy some sort of dwelling and lure both families to us through subconscious suggestion.

In the spirit of the economy, and to try and more fully enjoy the spirit behind holiday shopping season, this year's list of presents are limited by price, quantity (1 per person,) and accompanied by a challenge to myself to find the most thoughtful gifts possible for each recipient. I know that I will succeed because I am an excellent gift giver!

The Prof and I are trying to come up with a tradition of our own to start this year and continue once we are officially Mr. + Mrs...

One option: buying this, this, or this as a holiday gift to each other, and start capturing our antics for future enjoyment.

Another idea: Listening to Loved Ones, inspired by the NPR project...oh, how I wish I had my Nona's voice captured so I could still hear her best stories.
